Let's address the Elephant in the room

Finally! The answer to a question I had been struggling with for quite a while.  I was talking with a friend the other day and I said to him, “Why would people looking for health information visit a site written by a guy who has had cancer?” Almost without a pause he replied, “Why would you take your car to a mechanic?” I thought about his question for a second and without saying anything I realized that the obvious reason would be to have the mechanic offer solutions to the problem I was having with my car and possibly fix it. We didn’t elaborate any further on either question but it definitely left me with an ‘Aha’ moment. After pondering his question for a while I realized that I’m the mechanic in answer to his question.

Let me draw a parallel here.

Now, I certainly can’t fix your car; I’m not a mechanic. Nor can I ‘cure’ that health issue you may be having; no one can do that for your health, except you. What I can do is offer you nutritional solutions that will allow you to find a healthier you, just like I found solutions to deal with the obstacles on my road to better health.

I know the mechanic took years of formal education to learn his trade, and hopefully has years of practical experience where he has honed his trade. By comparison, I also took formal education to learn my trade and as a 15+ year survivor of a stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer that offered me a 1% chance of making it past 5 years, I believe I have practical experience in honing my trade as well. In addition, I have helped a number of people with various health issues (including cancer) work toward a healthier lifestyle and alleviate some of their health concerns, which further helped to hone my trade.

The definition of the phrase elephant in the room is ‘a matter or problem that is obvious or of great importance but that is not discussed openly’. I want the reader to be aware that although I did experience a life threatening period of time with cancer, I am here to say that I want this knowledge to be out in the open and not have it stand in the way of my opportunity of helping you. Hopefully, this removes the elephant in the room for you. You found this site for a reason. You were probably looking for the answer to a question.
